Some Chemotherapeutic Agents for malignant Tumors

Abstract
We observed the clinical effects on malignant tumor patients produced by administration of chemotherapeutic agents such as nitromin, TEM, Azan, Methylcholantherene and Cholesterol methylether respectively. Patients were almost inoperable and results was obtained as follow; ¢¥
Nitromin We found marked regression of tumor mass, diminution of pain, and improvement of the general co¢¥ ndition was produced by administration of Nitromin in cases of-Hodgkins¢¥ disease and malignant lymphoma. In this ;group, remarkable effects were obtained by. simultaneous¢¥ X-ray irradiation or administration of cortisone. However, it should be pointed out that the leucopenia becomes progressively worse with this combined. therapy even when Nitromin had been disconti-. nued.
In one patient with lymphosarcoma and one with endothelioma,. Nitromin had a temporary growth inhibitory effect on the` tumor. However; recurrent -tumors were never improved by redministration of Nitromin.
In .13 cases of cancer made up as follows, 4 cases of stomach cancer, one of each liver cancer, neck cancer, thyroid cancer, lung. cancer, tongue cancer, cecum cancer, metastatic bone cancer, we could not find any improvement except slight release of pain produced by¢¥, admninistration of Nitromin.
In one case of lip cancer, the tumor mass was slightly diminished.
One case of endothelioma showed also marked regression of ¢¥tumor mass, but recurrence followed 2 mo-
nthes later. Alsowe could not find any improvement incases of gastric, cancer.
TEM Noticeable effect was found in one case of endo-
thelioma, but no effects in 2 cases of gastric cancer.
Azan No effect was. fond in one case of gastric cancer, one case of breast cancer and one case¢¥of osteosarco ma. _
3-Methyleholathrene In one case of recurred sem inoma with lymphatic. metastasis, severe pain and other symptoms subsided on the . second day after administration of 3-Methylcholanterene, and after 9 days regression of the tumor mass began reaching half its original size when 600 mg had been administered. Eventually it reached to very small size by X-ray irradiaton, that could not be palpated. Atter that the remaing Iymphglands were removed by operative procedure.
Cholesterol-methylether,Estradioll-3-methylether and cholesterol-3-methylether showed marked inhibitory action on N.F. Sarcoma and Ehrlich¢¥s ascites cancer of mice, as we reported previously. ` At first, we were trying to investigate clinically -its effect. so cholester-01-3-methylether in oil were injected intramuscularly in cancer patients; one of lung metastasis in male breast cancer, one of prostate cancer, one of female breast cancer, one of skin cancer. In former 3 cases, we . found marked improvement, but in the latter s-kin cancer no effect was found. We expect more potential anticancer action to estrad iol 3-methylether in clinic too. We are now investigating the mechanism of the anticancer action of this steroid and other steroid compounds.
According to the above results, chemotherapy alone. could not completely solve the problem of malignant tumors, but the chemotherapeutic treatment has a
significant position as an auxiliary. treatment to radical operative procedure of malignant tumor combined with X-ray therapy.
